Leading European inclusions pioneer Pecan Deluxe Candy (Europe) Ltd has launched what is believed to be a unique offering for food manufacturers, QSRs and caterers across Europe: a peanut butter flavour caramel filled milk chocolate mini cup that is completely peanut free.
An innovative expansion of the company’s market-leading range of caramel cups, this latest product is ideal for ice cream and other chilled and frozen desserts, and perfect as a topping or to be baked into indulgent cakes, doughnuts and tray bakes. The cups can also be added to confectionery or other bagged snacks such as trail mix to create or enhance a premium range.
Pecan Deluxe has invested in the development of these cups in order to meet the growing demand for peanut flavour confectionery whilst still complying with nut free regulations. Allergy sufferers benefit too: with 4,000 people every year newly diagnosed with a peanut allergy in England alone, there is a requirement for products that are not just nut-free alternatives to peanut butter products – but genuinely taste like the real thing. The peanut butter flavour cups contain no actual nut or nut derived product, and are manufactured in Pecan Deluxe’s segregated nut-free facility using all natural flavours.
The sauce is created using a traditional caramel base and features butter and condensed milk for luxurious taste and mouthfeel. Taste tests have proven they really pack a punch in the flavour department with some testers unable to distinguish them from confectionery containing nut-derived peanut butter. Just 1.5g in size, the cups are available in multiple formats: bags, bulk bags boxed, and with either ambient milk chocolate or frozen low melt chocolate compound. The latter is specially developed for ice cream so the chocolate melts in the mouth at a lower temperature, better complementing ice cream’s own properties.
Pecan Deluxe’s managing director, Graham Kingston, explained: “We pride ourselves on product innovation and are delighted to bring to market what we believe to be the first mini caramel cup of its kind. Yes, there are nut-free peanut butter flavour products available – but as standalone snacks and confectionery, not as a bulk-supplied ambient or frozen inclusion for multiple markets. The possibilities are almost endless: combine the cups with strawberry sauce for a peanut butter and jelly style ice cream; or bake in a premium cake range with our fudge pieces as toppings.
“Wherever they end up, one thing is sure: these peanut butter flavour cups are totally nut free and so an excellent choice in challenging environments such as airline catering or where allergens are being actively reduced or discouraged. The cups are extensively tested and are proven to work well in a variety of food production environments – unlike some of the other peanut butter substitutes which can be highly incompatible with large-scale manufacturing processes. However they’re used, our nut free peanut butter flavour cups are extremely tasty and will bring a touch of indulgence to any application.”
Pecan Deluxe is now one of the biggest European suppliers of cookie dough pieces in a range of sizes, which feature in many household name premium ice creams as well as QSR and gastro-pub desserts. All Pecan Deluxe products – ranging from sugar sprinkles and chocolate pieces to brownie chunks and pralines – are made using natural colours and flavourings in strict allergen controlled, BRC double A grade facilities, and the company is constantly innovating to develop new flavour and texture options.
