Leading European inclusions pioneer Pecan Deluxe Candy (Europe) Ltd has reaped the rewards from its recent investment in product development and facilities with a record double-A Grade from BRC’s latest audit – a new, even more stringent assessment standard launched last summer.
Generally acknowledged as technically one of the toughest assessments to meet, the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety covers a broad spectrum ranging from Quality Management Systems to evidence of continual improvement. Pecan Deluxe’s achievement comes hot on the heels of significant investment in both development technology and staff facilities, including a new ablutions block with changing rooms, three new canteens and a bespoke bagging system to meet growing demand for flexible packaging solutions.
Pecan Deluxe has a policy of continuous investment, particularly in technology that advances panning, moulding and cold extrusion of multiple products including the company’s market-leading cookie dough range. This policy has by default resulted in the unprecedented new evaluation from BRC, which builds on a recent haul of new or updated accreditations.
A further accreditation has been awarded to Pecan Deluxe for the demanding RSPO Principles & Criteria for Sustainable Palm Oil Production by accredited Certifying Bodies. Under this standard, palm oil producers are certified through strict verification of the production process, and all organisations in the supply chain that use RSPO certified sustainable oil products are audited to prevent overselling and mixing palm oil with conventional (or non-sustainable) oil palm products.
The bespoke inclusions manufacturer has also joined an impressive roster of international blue-chip food companies as a UTZ-certified supplier, helping farmers to implement good agricultural practices and manage their farms profitably with respect for people and planet, as well as rewarding sustainable production by industry. UTZ is now the largest programme of its kind worldwide for coffee and cocoa and the organisation also leads certification schemes in other commodities including hazelnuts. This development compliments the companies’ existing Fair Trade supplier credentials.
Pecan Deluxe Operations Director Andrew Pitt explained: “Pecan Deluxe is immensely proud of its recent investments in developments that improve work-life balance for our valued staff as well as supporting innovation in NPD to provide ongoing benefits to customers, both current and future. We’re delighted to be one of the top scorers under the highly-valued new BRC system: it’s a ringing endorsement of the efforts made every day by every member of our team to provide the highest quality service to our customers across every sector of food manufacture and catering.”
Pecan Deluxe is now the biggest European supplier of cookie dough pieces for dessert applications, and these feature in many household name premium ice creams as well as QSR and gastro-pub desserts. All Pecan Deluxe products – which include traditionally made but innovatively flavoured fudges, moulded chocolate pieces, brownie chunks and praline nuts – are made using natural colours and flavourings in strict allergen controlled, BRC double A grade facilities, and the company is constantly innovating to develop new flavour and texture options.
